Commemoration Day recognises the sacrifices and dedication of Emirati martyrs, who have given their lives in the UAE and abroad in the field of civil, military and humanitarian service.
The United Arab Emirates was founded as a federation on December 2nd, 1971. Six of the seven emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Fujairah, Sharjah, Ajman and Umm Al Quwain) joined on that date. Ras Al Khaimah was admitted on February 1972.
